Your Declaration

Happy 4th of July.  

Last week, I spent some time with my dad. It was glorious! We had so much fun together and it had me really present to the life I am creating for myself. Every time I spend time with my family I get moved about how fast time goes. I want to soak up every moment I get with my family cause you never know what tomorrow holds. I have decided that I create my life and I say how it goes.  Especially on a day like today! Today is a celebration of  the Declaration of Independence. By a declaration the US became its own independent nation. Declarations are important. Who knew that simply stating something with such intention that such a powerful thing could be created. 

According to the dictionary a declaration is the formal announcement of the beginning of a state or condition. This July 4th maybe it’s time for us to make some declarations of our own...

You might not be announcing a state but you certainly can declare a whole new condition for your life. There are many tools to creating a life you are excited about. Today is a great day to step forward into your own declaration.  In line with the words of the Declaration of Independence you are “endowed by [your] Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” 


What does “happiness” mean to you?

First step is getting that  “happiness” is already inside of you. I used to think that happiness lived on the other side of goals, wants or people. I learned quickly that when you allow these places to be the source of happiness, it never lasts long.

Instead, we need to find contentment and peace in what we have in this moment. It doesn’t mean you can’t push for more, but when it comes from you being whole in who you are, instead of lack, you’ll find more joy in every action that follows.


Your unalienable right to life

First was owning your happiness like a true boss. Next, getting clear about what you want your life to look like is key to getting to the next level.  Easiest way to decide what life you want to create for yourself and what it looks like for you, is look at the 4 areas of life. Once you look at these 4 areas notice the gap from where you are and where you want to go. The four areas that make up a fulfilled life are 1) mindset, 2) body, 3) relationships and 4) financial health. When you look at these areas, do you have a picture of what you want your life to look like?

For me I see a positive happy mindset, in a healthy fit triathlon body, a loving self image in a passionate partnership and enough money to vacation regularly around the world. I’m really clear about the picture I see for my life. And because I’m clear I get to build it every day of my life through my thoughts, interactions and habits. 

Endowed to the pursuit  

So we have owned that happiness is a choice in this moment right where you are. Your right is to have a life you love by having a complete picture. Last part is to take action on what you see for yourself daily. Everyday is another opportunity to build the life you want for yourself. It doesn’t usually just fall into your life. Sometimes it takes hard work to build that body, cultivate that relationship, earn that paycheck or keep a positive mindset. It’s part of your pursuit to a life you love.  

The secret to staying in the pursuit is creating healthy habits, rituals and routines that daily have you take one step at a time toward the life you see for yourself.  


On this July 4th make your own declaration that matches the mission of the life you want to create for yourself.  The truth is self-evident, that all people are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.
